It seems that we’re an addicted society, and that it’s possible to be addicted to almost anything. But addiction to worry is underappreciated and widespread. When we’ve spent years, decades, worrying chronically, we can forget what it’s like not to be worried. Worry becomes a part of our inner psychic landscape, a landscape so experientially familiar that we can’t fathom ever being free from worry’s constant grip. But it’s possible to develop perspectives on, and a relationship to, worry that can lessen worry’s debilitating impact on us.
