Steve Becker MSW, LCSW is an expert on the exploitative personalities. He has a special clinical and consulting interest in the narcissistic and sociopathic (aka "psychopathic") personality disorders.
Individuals with these personality disturbances are characterized by extreme levels of self-centeredness and entitlement. Because they view others as existing to enable their gratification, these individuals are inclined to exploitative behaviors like transgressing rules, laws, and interpersonal boundaries.
Mr. Becker consults media on these personality disorders. He has expanded his consulting services to the problem of "political personality disorders"—that is, ethically-challenged politicians who evidence behaviors of the narcissistic and sociopathic personality.
Mr. Becker has offered three in-depth interviews in 2009, as a guest expert on Martha Trowbridge Radio, LLC, most recently on the topic of politicians with narcissistic and sociopathic personality disorders.
He is also a regular columnist for LoveFraud.com, where his biweekly, archived columns have attracted considerable attention for their trenchant probing of the dynamics of sociopathic and other exploitative personalities.
Mr. Becker was recognized in 2006 as among the 10 most influential men in Union County, NJ for his work to reduce domestic violence. In addition, he was issued a Governor's Proclamation, and officially recognized in a Joint Legislative Resolution by the State of New Jersey Senate and General Assembly, for his work empowering females against relationship abuse.
Mr. Becker has made many presentations to clinical and lay audiences on the subject of exploitative and abusive personalities. He is routinely asked to return to the venues at which he's presented.
He has a fulltime private clinical psychotherapy practice in Westfield, NJ. He earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1982), and completed his graduate degree in social work at New York University (1987).
